Housed in a bright, modern, wave-shaped building on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre, the Centre for Life is a fascinating place for a hands-on scientific journey into the world around us.
The aim of the Centre is to make science fun for everyone, and no-matter what your age – from toddler to teen to grandparent – you’’ll find something here to fire your imagination.
Find out what humans need to survive in extreme environments, from the frozen Arctic and arid deserts to the vastness of outer space. Dress up as an explorer for an Arctic adventure and construct your very own (foam) igloo, before heading across the ground floor to unearth pre-historic treasures on the dino-bone dig.
Immerse yourself in the amazing sights and sounds of stars, satellites and rocket launches on a magical journey into deep space from the comfort of the region’’s largest planetarium. With incredible high definition images, projected on to the huge, domed ceiling, this is a breathtaking visual experience. Shows change regularly throughout the year.
Make sure you leave time for an adrenaline-fuelled spin on the Crazy Motion Ride before taking part in some real live scientific experiments in the Life Theatre, where audience participation is the name of the game.
Whether your enquiring mind has serious questions to ask about the world we live in, or your busy fingers are just happy pushing all the buttons and pulling the levers, the Centre for Life is educational, inspirational and above all, a great day out.
If you're coming with little ones from Newcastle city centre it's probably worth catching the Metro from the Monument to Central Station. The Central Station (National Express East Coast) is less than a minute's walk away.
