Situated on the South Bank of the River Thames the EDF Energy London Eye is the world’s tallest observation wheel at some 300 feet high. It was voted the world’s favourite tourist attraction in 2005.
If this is your first visit to London, go to the Eye before you do anything else. It gives a real feel for the scale of the city and the location of all major sights.
The Eye offers a 30-minute ‘flight’ with a bird’s eye view of everything from St Paul’s to the Houses of Parliament. On a clear day you can see up to 40 kilometres in every direction. Suddenly, London takes on a miniature feel and little ones are transfixed by the whole experience.
Head to County Hall on your arrival, now transformed into a venue with the feel of an airport departure lounge where baby-changing facilities and refreshments can be found. On the concourse, there’s a gift shop and fully enclosed play area so leave dad to do the queuing whilst the children play on the swings and the monkey climbing frames.
Remember that it’s an ever-revolving wheel, so leave buggies that won’t fold in the space supplied at County Hall.
