Watergate Bay Hotel manages a rare thing - to put families and children at the heart of the experince whilst maintaining a feel of luxury, relaxation and charm. Inspired by its spectacular beachside location, Watergate Bay Hotel strikes just the right atmosphere of laid-back indulgence. Two miles of glorious golden sand, friendly staff and an excellent range of facilities make this a place where children will have the time of their lives and parents will feel genuinely rejuvenated.
Follow a trail of little sandy footprints up the otherwise grand staircase and you know you are in for a good time. The family suite is the perfect set up - a light and spacious double room, with kingsize bed and en suite bathroom, and a separate children’s bunk room, with its own TV. Both rooms open onto a decked balcony, so you can watch the surfers ride the waves as the sounds of the sea flood in. Rooms take inspiration directly from the surroundings, with solid oak floors, textured fabrics in shades of sea green, simple modern furniture and soft white linens. Fixtures and fittings are very high quality, but with a pared down feel, and the result is all calm relaxation. Simple yet stylish bathrooms have bath as well as a spacious shower - great for post-beach cleansing, and big striped beach towels are provided.
At Watergate Bay the playroom is right at the heart of the what they they are offering. As you enter the ‘zone’ it would be easy to think you were in a fantastically well-equipped nursery - with wonderful artworks on the walls. A well-resourced craft room has daily projects/activities. Toys for all ages are packed into the big bright playroom, plus a soft play area for babies. The quiet room for reading and story-telling, has a plasma screen for watching U films, so kids can snuggle up on a beanbag and wind down at the end of the day. An outdoor decked area has a pirate ship climbing frame, and there are dressing up costumes to add to the adventure. In school holidays the Ofsted-registered staff arrange beach activities.
The Living Space, an open plan bar/cafe/chill out area, with great views and large wooden terrace serves a good children’s menu of standard but high quality options. The Brasserie is a more formal restaurant, serving a bistro-style menu, where children over 7 can eat with their parents. During high season and school holidays a Children’s Tea is available at 5.30pm for under 7s, who can then go on to a supervised session in the Zone, whilst parents enjoy a leisurely meal. The Beach Hut is a rustic cafe right on the sand serving snacks and children’s meals, but the best dining option, either with or without kids is Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen - just across the car park with stunning views of the bay and exceptionally delicious food. Fifteen has a close partnership with the hotel and baby listening and supervised kid’s zone sessions can be used whilst dining here.
A relaxed buffet-style breakfast is served until 10am. Keep little ones happy with a pain au chocolat, before stocking up on fruit, yogurt, cereals, porridge or locally sourced sausages, bacon and eggs, ready for a day on the beach.
Take advantage of the hotel special offers with Extreme Academy and have a go at surfing to really experience beach life!
