It’s a Yummy Summer Sundae

Just back from a top family festival experience at Summer Sundae.  This is one of the most child-friendly festivals we’ve been to.  The site, in the grounds of De Montfort Hall, Leicester, is small and un-crowded, so older kids can have a bit of freedom to wander safely.  Great variety of music over 5 stages, with Bon Iver, The Zutons, Lighting Seeds, The Charlatans and our favourites, First Aid Kit (check them out on myspace).  Smallest person’s highlight was a dedicated kidzone packed with craft activities and story-telling (kidzone has proper loos and baby-changing, and is indoors - so brilliant even if it rains). The lovely chill-out garden has face-painting, street theatre and outdoor games.   Some fab food stalls, our favourite was the Hurly Burly vegetarian cafe - great value, complete with cabaret in the evening.  Film tent, comedy, poetry… Next year we’re going to hire one of their funky campervans and stay the whole weekend!
